Twelve tapes for the minute before you text him
You know it's over. Your chest didn't get the memo.
Ninety seconds, twelve times, one for every moment that sends you to your phone to text him. Not a lecture. Not a guide. My voice, for the ninety seconds before you decide.

Ninety seconds. For when you know it's over.
You know it's over.
Your chest didn't get the memo
For when you know it's over and your chest didn't get the memo.
I'm making eleven more, one for each of these nights:

You know it's over. You could explain why to a stranger, in order. And your chest still jumps when the phone lights up.
I know that gap. I used to be fun until about two in the morning, and then I wasn't. I lost most of my twenties to that, and a lot of people who got tired of waiting for me to stop. Four years ago I stopped.
Nobody tells you that the hard part isn't quitting. The hard part is after. What I rebuilt wasn't clever. All of it was small. I'm the one who did it first and read about it after.
Here's the reading part, and it's the only one in this letter. Forty people going through a breakup they didn't want looked at their ex's photo in a scanner, and areas tied to the sensory side of physical pain lit up. Then a study of sixty people found rejection has its own pattern. Two scanner studies, not huge ones. Not a broken arm. Its own kind of pain.

In that minute nobody chooses. You're not going to scroll a menu with a typed text sitting in the other app. So every tape is named for the moment. You find your night and press play.
They won't bring him back. They won't make you forget him either. They're for the ninety seconds before you grab your phone. Nobody lectures you in them. If it still needs sending after ninety seconds, send it.
Here's the part with the price, plainly: one payment, no subscription. If it's not for you, you have thirty days to get your money back.

About the author
Ruby Wilder
Ruby Wilder writes at wilderbrain.com about the messages she didn't send and the four years it took to stop needing to. She is not a therapist, and she says so often.
She lives in the United States, and these twelve tapes are the closest thing she's made to a diary.
If tonight is worse than a bad night, that's not what they're for. Call or text 988. It's free, and it's not an overreaction.
Before you decide
The two things you're thinking.
Why pay when everyone gives a free guide?
Everyone selling to you hands out the free guide. In that minute nobody chooses. So every tape is named for the moment.
There's a six-dollar one.
Probably a good one. It's something to read. These are twelve moments in my voice, and in that minute there's nothing to read.

Questions
Before you press play.
What format are the tapes in?
Twelve MP3 files, about 90 seconds each, plus The 9am Page as a PDF. Everything downloads right after checkout.
Do I need an app to listen?
No. The tapes are plain MP3 files — they play on any phone, in whatever you already use for music or voice notes. No app to install, no login.
How do I know which one to play?
Each tape is named for the moment, not numbered blind. You find your night on the list and press play.
Is this a substitute for therapy?
No. Ruby isn't a therapist and says so on this page. These are ninety seconds before you decide. That's all they are.
